“' A large parish lantern.' Aylesbury. - Capt. Cox and his assistant have just concluded a four weeks' mission in this parish, and I am glad to testify to the earnestness, energy and tact with which they have conducted it. Beginning with only a small attendance the numbers have steadily increased, until last Thursday night a crwod of over 1,500 people was drawn to listen attentively and reverently to Capt. Cox preaching in the market square. I was especially struck with the definite Church teaching given by Capt. Cox, and I trust much good has been done amongst those whom it is difficult to reach by the ordinay methods of work. The missioners found many helpers in Aylesbury, and undoubtedly the large parish lantern, ably manipulated night after night by Mr. G. Putman, was a great means of attracting people to the outdoor services. I quite hope the C.A. Van missioners will be able to pay us a visit another year, and I wish them Godspeed in their good work. Constantine O. Phipps (Vicar).”
