“'Welcome back, Captain!' - Ashe. - On Friday evening, Feb. 17, we were delighted to see amongst us, once more, the genial face and stalwart figure of our old friend, Capt. Cox, of the 'Winchester' No. I. Van . This time in the character of a temperance lecturer. The Ashe branch of the C.E.T.S., is at present small in number, and the president and secretary aould gladly have more frequent opportunities of singing their names on pledge cards; yet, within 24 hours of the close of Friday's meeting, four fresh members were enrolled as total abstainers. The Captain spoke in his usual bright and earnest style, with an occasional humourous anecdote; and the attention never flagged from beginning to end. The latter part of the meeting was taken up with some beatiful lantern slides illustrating the parable of the 'Prodigal Son;' such pictures being reverently and touchingly explained by the lecturer. Favourite C.A: hymns were thrown on the sheet at intervals, and heartily sund by all present. The collection at the close of the meeting was given to C.A. (instead of C.E.T.S.) and amounted to 10s. 1d., in 71 coins: there being 81 people present. E.Thoytes, President - A.H.Sellwood, Secretary For Ashe C.E.T.S.”
