“AN AWAKENING Radcliffe-on-Trent. - Religion in this village has been at somewhat of a standstill for some time, but thanks to God an awakening has begun. Capt. Alcock, from the C.A., has been here for about a month now, and is doing a good work. The Cottage Meetings he holds are a great success, and have been the means of bringing souls to Christ. On Monday evening, Jan. 30, he gave a Lantern Lecture in the Church Schools, on the 'Life of Christ,' and was assisted by Capt. Cowley, of St. Mary's, Nottingham, who was good enough to bring the lantern and to work the slides. The room was crowded to the door, and I am sure the Lecture was very interesting and instructive. Solos were rendered by a lady from the church choir and Capt. Cowley sang 'I am Thine, O Lord' in which the congregation joined. Capt. Cowley tried to impress on them that it was no use singing if htey had not given their hearts to God. After the Lecture, short Prayer Meeting was held, and the Captains respectively gave the people are hearty invitation to stay behind. Not many obeyed the request, however, but out of the few that remained two were brought to Christ. Praise God. The church Army is a new feature to Radcliffe, but I am sure it has a great future. J. C. W., for Capt. Alcock.”
