“FRIENDS OF A FORTNIGHT Kirtling, Cambs. - The inhabitants of this village will ever remember the visit of the C.A. Van 'Ely' No. III., Capt. Balls, and Brother Hudson (Cadet). Lantern Services were held in the Schoolroom to large congregations (several times the room was packed). The lecture on the 'Way of the Cross,' was listened to with greatest reverence, many being drawn nearer to the 'Man of Sorrows,' their Saviour. The story of the Bible, which was so touchingly read by the Captain, brought many a tear to the eyes of the listeners. These two lectures were repeated by request. [...] In future there will be Lantern Services and Bible Classes held every week. B. D., for the Vicar.”
