CLIFFORD, Mr   (fl. 1890s) – lecturer

Reference
Captain March and E.C. Oakely, ‘The Church's Holy War’ in Church Army gazette

“A FORLORN HOPE Spital Square, St. Mary, E. - We are now beginning to make headway in this very difficult parish. On Sunday evenings we now have Lantern Mission Services after the usual Church Service, and are glad to say that we are having the signs that God is with us, and is bringing some to Himself. Lately, we had the privilege of a visit from Mr. Clifford, who gave us his splendid lecture on 'Father Damien.' Though it was a very wet night, a good number came, and the universal testimony was, 'It is the best lecture I have heard.' We are hoping now, after Christmas, with the help of St. Mary-at-Hill, to start open-air services on week-evenings. We are greatly in need of helpers and money. Will our Gazette readers pray for an outpouring of God's Spirit upon us that this place which has had the character of being a 'forlorn hope,' may be the entrance-gate of many to heaven. Capt. March.”
