“In spite of other business: In have pleasure in bearing testimony to the works of the Church Army. The 'Ripon' Van under the charge of Capt. T. Smith, and Brother Bedderd, held a three weeks' Mission in this parish. The season of the year was not very favourable, as many people let lodgings and are very much engaged during August, but the Evangelists received a hearty welcome, and their Lantern Services, especially, were always well attended. They held services not only in Ashrigg itself, but in all the villages and hamlets in the parish, which is a very scattered one, covering an area of about 15,000 acres, and proved themselves most helpful and useful in every way.”
