“A refresher: The day that Capt. Hanson (late of the Church Army Training Home) visited this parish, and conducted a series of Meetings, will be remembered by us. At 3 p.m. he gave a Bible Reading, the basis of which was, 'As Christ is, so are we in this world.' The people were deeply impressed by the soul-stirring discourse, and at the close each greeted the other with - 'What a blessed time we have had.' At 6 p.m. the good Captain gave a Lantern Exhibition to our little folks, entitled, 'The torn Bible,' our own Captain (Simkin) giving the connective readings; and at 8 p.m. the adults had a treat, the memory of which will not soon be effaced. For an hour-and-a-half the Captain held the people as if by a spell, as he graphically described the work of the Church among the Outcast. The lesson for us, which he pointed our, was to do our utmost for our dear Master's sake, and for these our outcast brothers' and sisters' sake. We all felt at the close of Capt. Hanson's Lecture (and after seeing the lantern views of the work, which were thrown on the screen) that we had had a most refreshing time. In the brief After-Meeting , a few most beautiful pictures of the Life of our blessed Lord where thrown on the screen, and, after singing and prayer, Capt. Hanson asked those to hold up their hand who wanted to lead a better and new life, and, thank God, six hands were held up. As the people left the room one heard on all hands, 'I hope we will soon come again.' We had a collection for the general work of the C.A.”
