SALMON, D.S.  (fl. 1890s) – lecturer

Reference

“What a Lantern Lecture did. St. Jame’s Carlisle. – On Friday, Nov. 6, in the Blencrowe Street Hall, a Lecture was given with pictures and music, by D.S. Salmon, Esq., on 'The land of Gold and Diamonds” (narrative of a trip to the Transvaal) in aid of the C.A: work of the parish. The Meeting was a large one, and was presides aver by J. Shelby Chance, Esq., of Cardew Lodge. The Lecture itself was a perfect treat. Mr. Salmon is a splendid speaker, and has gave us an admirable picture of South Africa, its towns, industries and missionary operations. The slides, which numbered 150, being kindly lent Sir Donald Currie, M.P., and were shown by a powerful Oxy-Hydrogen Lantern, ably worked by our Curate. Mr. Salmon, during the Lecture, gave some weighty words of counsel and warning to young men going abroad. Our very grateful thanks are due to the Lecturer and all the friends who helped to make the gathering such a success. After paying expenses we were able to place £8 13s. in the hands of our Treasurer. To God be all the glory.”
