“Two-thirds of the population: A series of Mission Services has been held, conducted by Capt. W. G. King, of the 'Oxford' II. Van. Lantern Services were held on three evenings, illustrating 'The Life of Christ,' 'The Work of the Church Army,' and 'The Story of a Torn Bible.' The Services were well attended, on five evenings, over 200 being present out of a population of a little over 300. On wet evenings the attendance was variable, but never less than 40. Bright and hearty addresses were given at each Service by Capt. King, with apparently favourable results. The Captain showed great tact and readiness in dealing with his audience, more especially at the three Services for children only. The Vicar of the parish was present, and presided at all Meetings. The Mission was brought to a close on Friday, when Memorial Cards were given to all who wished to have them. Sales of the various publications of the Army were effected to the amount of nearly 4p.”
