“Fireside Talks. Pontefract. – A Conference of Captains and Nurses was held in All Saints’ Parish on Thursday, March 5. It was opened in the Church House with a Bible Reading by the Vicar, who took for his subject – Joshua v. 13-15, from which he drew the important lesson, that in order to have the Captain of the Lord’s hearts fully on our side, we must be wholly consecrated to His Service in will, in motive, and in method. Then followed a Prayer Meeting, in which much strength was gained through communion with God in Chrsit Jesus. After tea we all sat round the fireside, and in a free and friendly way discussed various practical questions arising out of the work – as for instance, how far the striking and telling picture of our Lord and the Cross at a Lantern Service would be a help or a Hindrance to devotion. After the conference closed, the Captains and Nurses gave addresses at open-air Meetings in the parish, and a Testimony Meeting in the new Mission Room. It was agreed by all present that this was one of the happiest conferences held in the this district.”
