DAVEY, Captain William R.  (1867-1941) – lecturer

Reference
Robert Hodge, ‘The Church's Holy War: News from the Battlefield’ in Church Army gazette

“A Decisive Answer. Middelton, Warwickshire.- On Feb. 21, Capt. Davey visited this little country village to give two Lantern Lectures in the School. He was accompanied by Capt. Gassick, who is stationed at Bodymoor Heath. The first Lecture, at 5.45, was for children only. There was a room full of quiet and attentive children, and the money taken amounted 4s 4d. At 7.30, the second Lecture followed on the Churchs Method of Reclaiming the Outcast and Despairing. The two Captains gave an interesting account of the training of the C.A. Evangelistics, and of their social Mission work (so dear, surely, to the heart of Him Who came 'to seek and to save that wich was lost”), illustrated again by lantern slides. The Vicar presided, and in proposing a hearrty vote of thanks to Capt. Davey and to Capt. Gassik for the very interesting lecture, remarked that the Church Army, and the work it is doing, was a decisive answer to those who declare that Chistianity is dead, or that the Church has lost her power to reclaim the sinner in the strength of her Master’s Name. The collection amounted £1 2s. 8d., making a total of £1 7s. Robert V. Hodge, Vicar of Middleton.”
