DAVEY, Captain William R.  (1867-1941) – lecturer

Captain Reader, ‘The Church's Holy War: News from the Battlefield’ in Church Army gazette

“A Lovely Moonlight. Kintbury Berks. – We had a visit last week from Capt. Davey, Lay Assoe-Sec. On January 8 he gave us a Lantern Service for children, entitled, 'Little Joy’s Mission.” There were about 150 present, and they apparently enjoyed the Service very much. At 7.30 Capt. Davey gave a very intersting lecture on the work of the C.A., for adults. There was an attendance of abot 110. The Vicar presided, and at the close spoke very warmly on the work of the C.A.; collections announted to 18s 3 ¾ d. On Wendsday, Capt. Davey gave us the same lecture at Lapton, in our little Mission Room. This is a very scattered district, and some of the people had to come nearly two miles across the fields. It being a lovely moonlight night we had the room nicely filled. The collection was £1 5s 8 ¼ d., altogether £2 4s. which was given to Capt. Davey for the Social Work, which proves that the sympathy felt for the C.A. was a practical character. To God be all the glory. Capt. Reader.”
