“The brass for God: […] On Monday, Nov. 19, [SIC] we had a Lantern Lecture on the work of the Church Army. Previous to the Lecture we had an Open-air March, headed by the Band, Brother Ferguson beating the drum, which was kindly given to the Captain by a lady, Brother Gibson and the Captain playing the trombone and cornet. The music was certainly loud if not very sweet, and had the effect of rousing the whole village, and the result was, that we had a splendid meeting which everyone enjoyed very much. The Rev. C. Robinson opened the meeting with prayer, and at the close addressed the meeting shortly, and stated how pleased he was with the Lecture, as he had not previously known much about the work of the Church Army; indeed, it was quite a surprise to a great number of people to learn that the C.A. was doing such a splendid work for God. The Rev. C. Rhodes (our Vicar) is very eager to help on the good work, and is doing all that he can to assist us. ”
