“Poor, dark China: Some short time back we reported that our parish had collected during the past year about 14p for the C.M.S., but we are determined to make it 20p this year. To this end, on Thursday, Nov. 21, at 6 p.m., about 70 of our friends sat down to a capital Mission Tea Meeting, prepared by so many willing hands for the Master's sake. After Tea, a Magic Lantern Entertainment was given, illustrating Missionary work in Kwang Tung, South China. Whilst gazing on these pictures (which bring human life so forcibly before us) we felt deeply touched by what those have to pass through, who are living in heathen darkness, knowing not the blessings of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is so urged upon us to do what we can in spreading forth the Gospel message in this dark land of China. Though we cannot all go out, yet we can do something by giving our mite to help our Brothers and Sisters to take out the message. The proceeds of the Tea and Magic Lantern we are giving to the C.M.S. Our Mission Choir helped us by singing several special pieces for the occasion. The singing of 'How many sheep are straying,' &c., and the Benediction by our Rector, brought a very pleasant and happy evening to a close. [...]”
