“In the hop yards: A very successful Church Army Mission has just been brought to a close in this district. It began with a Lantern Service at one of the quarters of the hop-pickers, and it concluded with a special service at t Suckley Church last Sunday evening. [...] The mission has been principially for the hop-pickers, who at this season of the year come in large numbers to the district; but the inhabitants have availed themselves very heartily of the services conducted by the Missioners. During the mission (which has lasted a month) nearly forty Open-air Services have been held, and about 3.000 papers and tracts have been distributed among the pickers in the various hop-yards. The children have also attended in large numbers the special services which have been held for their benefit on Sundays in the Parish School room; and altogether Capt. Wood and Cadet Coleman may congratulate themselves upon much good work honestly and faithfully carried out. Their Open-air Services, consisting of lantern lectures, hymns, prayers, and Gospel addresses, will long be remembered , and a hearty welcome will be given them if they visit again next year the scene of their labours during the past month. ”
