BRAY, Captain (fl. 1890s) – lantern operator
WILLINGS, J.J. (fl. 1890s) – lecturer
“A relic from the slums: Last Monday night we were favoured with what might be styled 'a relic from the slums.' With Mrs. Boileau's kind permission Mr. J. J. Willings, Associate-Evangelist, C.A., gave his interesting Lantern Lecture, entitled, 'Footsteps of Jesus,' or 'Lessons from the Life of Our Lord.' Captain Bray the resident Evangelist, kindly opened with prayer and officiated at the lantern. Perhaps the most interesting fact about this lecture, was that it had been given many times before, to large and always appreciative audiences of gutter children in some of the vilest parts of East London. Mr. Willings having found this a most effective way of preaching the gospel to the poor outcast boys and girls of East London. These facts rendered the lecture more entertaining to the rather large and attentive audience of sympathetic people, and gives us hope for much work of this kind in East Greenwich for the winter months. Again we plead the prayers of all God's children on behalf of our work here.”
