“Socially evangelistic: Through the kindness of our Rector opening to us his grounds, a very pleasant evening was spent on July 22nd. We had previously arranged tea out on the lawn, but owing to a heavy storm we had to resort indoors, where about 120 sat down to tea, prepared by a few of our Sisters, who are always so ready to help us. Unfortunately we were not able to sit together, but we believe all thoroughly enjoyed themselves. At 7.45 a lecture was given by our Captain on 'The Church Army, Spiritual and Social.' The meeting was presided over by our Rector, who spoke in the highest praise of the work of the Church Army. After the lecture the collection was taken, and then some pictures (illustrating the lecture) were shown by the magic lantern, worked by our friend, Capt. Lothian, of Great Horkesley, whom we were delighted to welcome amongst us, and hope to see again. At 9.30 we brought to a close a very pleasant, and we trust, a very profitable evening, by the singing of the National Anthem. The proceeds of the evening will be sent to the C.A. General Fund.”
