“Very refreshing: On February 8th a Tea was given for all the single men of our parishes. It was provided by C.A. soldiers and friends, the Captain having his fingers in the pie too. Nearly sixty sat down to Tea, and Sunday School Teachers assisted at the tables. Our churchwarden, Mr. A.D. Wells, who has a special interest in the young men, was present. After all had satisfied their appetites, the Rector, whose experience extends from the last seventy-nine years, reminded us how nice it is to be young. He spoke of the young men as 'jewels of the Parish,' and greater still, 'jewels of the Lord,' but that they could only be made to shine 'by the Grace of God,' both for this world and the world to come. Then came a Magic Lantern subject, 'The Oiled Feather.' A soldier worked the lantern, while the Captain read. Next we heard how Saul of Tarsus was stopped on the road, and although he trembled and was astonished, he received 'a real fortune,' which did bring everlasting joy ad happiness. all our Soldiers were there, and before going home we had hot tea and cake, which kept out the frost and cold. After tea we sang for 'showers of blessing,' and truly it was a 'season of refreshing.'”
