DAVEY, Captain William R.  (1867-1941) – lecturer

Reference

“'Hope for the Hopeless. On Nov.26, Capt. Davey visited the East Farleigh, near Maindstone, to hold two Meetings in the School. The first was for children only at 4.30 p.m., when the room was as full as it could hold. For more than an hour the children lestend attentively, and with evident pleasure, to their entertainer, who, with the help of his magic lantern, and some capitel slides, told the story of 'Little Joy’s Mission”, showing afterwards a few of the beautyful Scripture slides used by the C.A. In the evening a Lantern Lecture was given, showing the methods used for the Reclamation of the Outcast. The Viacr of East Farleigh presided, and said they naturally took an interest in the C.A., from having had their friend, Nurse Ward, who for nine months had been doing good and kindly work up and down in the parish. Only half of the admission money taken at the afternoon meeting was asked for the work of the C.A., but as the Vicar said he should like the whole of the children’s halfpence, viz., 8s.8d., to go to such a good cause, the net result of the two meetings was 1 Pound 16s. 8 ¾ d.””
