“Music on the green: An audience of about 200 people attended the Concert Hall, on Wednesday 16th, to listen to a Lecture on the 'Work of the Church Army,' and some sacred music. J. Rogers, Esq., of Holt Hall, occupied the chair. Captain Lawrie was assisted in his Lecture by a series of Lantern views, ands hymns and solos were given by friends. The Church Choir were supported by a small orchestra of eight violins and an American organ. The entertainment was much enjoyed by all. The collection amounted to 4p 10s., and after deducting expenses we were able to send two pounds to Headquarters. We may also say that several people have promised to become subscribers. We hope that this may be but the beginning of Church Army work in this parish.”
