Type of event
lantern service
Full title
Magic lantern service
Date
26 December 1893
Reference
W. Gassick and C.W. Walton, ‘The Church's Holy War’ in Church Army gazette

“A free magic lantern service: On Tuesday evening, Dec. 26th, we had a lantern service, 'Christie's Old Organ.' Our Vicar worked the lantern while the Captain worked the story. The service seemed to be appreciated by both old and young. After a few earnest words from the Vicar, we closed our meeting by singing the Doxology. As Headquarters had kindly lent us the slides free of charge, we were able to male the service free. At the close, a collection was taken to defray the cost of carriage, which was generously responded to.”

Notes
The lantern operator was the local vicar.
