“Hackney and East Middlesex - The fifteenth anniversary of this Union was celebrated in the Morley Hal, presided over by the Bishop of Bedford. The secretary (Mr. C. W. Garrard) read the report, which showed that 156 societies were in association, with a membership of over 20,000; that speakers and lecturers had been sent to 1.500 meetings; and that 26 festivals had been held, attended by nearly 26,000 peopele. The income was L 923, the expenditure 912. The Rev. H. Storer Toms, Rev. Henry T. Smart, Rev. Canon Barker, M. A. and Mr. J. H. Raper addressed the meeting. An interesting feature of the proceedings was the presentation of an illuminated address to Mr. Raper in consideration of his eminent services to the temperance movement. ”
