ADKINS, Frank (1845-1928) – lecturer
“Redhill - The annual report of the St. Matthew's Society was read prior to the commencement of a dissolving view lecture by Mr. Frank Adkins, on Friday, February 27th, at which Rev. Henry Brass presided. We are glad to learn that the success hitherto enjoyed by this society continues. During the year 134 new members have been admitted, making a total of 545 enrolled since the commencement of the society three years ago. Of these, 37 have left the neighbourhood, 12 have joined other societies, 28 have left, but still abstain, 28 have been transferred to the adult branch, and 15 have broken the pledge. The Battle Bridge branch under Miss Ashby numbers 51. Absentees are well looked after, 26 ordinary meetings have been held, a service of song give, an excursion made to Hastings, and a most successful industrial revolution carried out. The society has the advantage of a new and very handsome place meeting. ”
