“In connection with the Mount Pleasant (Exeter) Methodist Sunday School and Band of Hope a New Year's tea was held in the Lecutre Hall of the church, over 200 children being entertained, whilst a large number of friends were also present. After tea the prizes won by the scholars, numbering over 60, were presented by the Rev. W. Cann. These were for regular attendance at the Sunday morning school, and the awards consisted of suitable books, selected by the scholars. A lantern entertainment was given by Mr W.C. Rogers, of the Children's Special Service Mission, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all. At the close cheers were given for Mr Rogers.”
