ROWLEY, F.R. (1868-1939) – lecturer
Royal Albert Memorial Museum – organiser
“[...] Natural history is an instructive, and it will lose nothing of either quality at the hands of Mr Rowley, who is not only an earnest student, but an enthusiastic teacher. The lecture, which commences at eight o'clock, is the first of a Saturday night series, other subjects announced being 'Coral Polyps and their work,' and 'Spoils of the Sea.' The charge for admission is only one penny.
The Curator is a great believer in the educational value of Museums. He regards them not merely as repositories of that which is rare or curious, an inspection of which may serve to gratify a passing fancy or to while away a leisure hour, but as priceless volumes of information -- precious store-houses of knowledge -- inviting preusal and research, and richly repaying both. And it is partly, I take it, with a view to arousing a wider and deeper interest in the unfolding of this vlume and the exploration of treasure-house of ours in Queen-street that these penny lectures have been arranged. I hope all of them will be largely attended. Popular appreciation thus evinced would probably induce the promoters to arrange further series.
”There is no specific reference to the use of slides in this lecture, but as it appears to be a repeat of an earlier lecture in which slides were shown, it seems likely that it was illustrated in the same way.
