“The last evening meeting of the present session of the Exeter College Field Club and Natural History Society was held on Saturday. In the absence of the Principal, who was detained in London, Mr James Jerman, F.R.M.S., took the chair.

Mr F.G. Collins (the hon. secretary) read a paper on the 'Geology of the New Exeter Railway,' the lecture being illustrated by lantern slides. After a brief reference to the advantage Exeter offered to students of geology, the lecturer proceeded to discuss the new red breccias as revealed by the cuttings from Alphington to Ide and Western Town, passing in review the various theories that have been advanced to account for this great accumulation of clastic material.

Mr Rowley, the curator of the Museum, in proposing a vote of thanks to the lecturer, said the co-operation of members of the Club in bringing the collections up-to-date would be most cordially welcomed.  In several departments there were gaps in the collections which local naturalists would be the most qualified to fill up, and he trusted that they would come forward and do so. [...] He expressed the hope that there would thus be created a bond of sympathy between the working naturalists of the district and the Executive of the Museum. [...]”
