Reference

“'Shells and their tenants' formed the subject of a most interesting and instructive lecture given by Mr F.R. Rowley, curator, in the Lecture room at the Royal Albert Museum, Exeter, on Saturday evening. The lecture was the first of a course of free lectures to be given, and the attendance on Saturday augurs well for success. The Mayor (Mr F.G. Widgery) presided, and in opening the proceedings said the course of lectures would form a useful link in the work carried on in the museum. In opening his lecture, which was beautifully illustrated by means of lantern slides, Mr Rowley dealt with the bivalve shell species, sketching the general structure of the river mussell, the scallop, the puma [pinna] and the lutraria.
