“I spent the Whitsun week-end [14-17 May 1937] with the South-Western Naturalists who, at the invitation of the Somerset Archaeological and Natural History Society, held their Annual Conference at Taunton.

The meetings included an extremely interesting lecture by Mr St George Gray, Curator of Taunton Museum, on 'The Lake Villages of Somerset,' a subject on which he has spent many years of study and research.

By the aid of excellent slides from photographs taken during excavations, actual remains preserved in the museum, and most of all by his clear and vivid exposition, the lecturer was able to give us a convincing picture, probably more or less correct, of the habits of the men and women who lived at Meare and Glastonbury some two thousand years ago..
