“This took the form of a running commentary on a number of slides from photographs taken by the speaker in his garden at Rydon Crest and elsewhere. Some of the views showed contrivances to attract birds of different species to visit the garden -- a bird table, a pool, nesting-boxes and tit-bits suspected here and there to tempt the Tits. [...] A section of a cocoa-but husk hung up for a nesting-place for birds, was noticed to be frequently visited by a hornet. On examination the insect was found to have appropriated it and a slide showed the partially constructed comb. Other slides showed nests and eggs of Wild Duck, butterflies and moths visiting plants in the wild garden specially grown to attract them, nestling owls, spider webs spangled with dew drops, a wasp's nest on a tree trunk, and other interesting objects.”
