CALDER, Robert (fl. 1890s) – lantern operator
“
Mr Robert Calder, Aberdeen, gave a most interesting and enjoyable entertainment in the Public Hall on Friday evening, when, with the aid of the oxy-hydrogen lime-light he showed a splendidly arranged programme of views, 12 feet square, representing scenes from 'The Life of Mary, Queen of Scots,' 'The Lifeboat,' 'The Signal Box,' 'The Collierʻs Dying Child,' and 'The Road to Heaven,' the humorous element being well sustained by the 'Mad Umbrella,' 'The House that Jack Built,' 'Sambo’s Five Senses,' etc., while the eccentricities of the magic lantern were given effect to by numerous dissolving and comic sets.
