ABBEY, John (c.1841-1918) – lecturer
C.E.T.S. Norwich Branch – organiser
“A meeting in connection with the CETS was held in the parish room on Monday afternoon for young people, which was well attended. The diocesan organising secretary gave an address, illustrated by limelight lantern views, on 'The Advantages of Temperance.' After the address a number of those present gave in their names to join the society. In the evening the room was well-filled with adults, when Mr. Abbey spoke on 'The Manufacture and Effects of Intoxicating Drinks on the Human System, also as a Hinderance to the Social and Spiritual Progress of Society.' The Vicar (the Rev. J.W.Walker) presided on both occasions. A branch of the socety is now being formed for the two parishes, and Mr. W.Cornish will act as hon. secretary.”
