KIRKBY, Reverend C.W. (1853-1939) – lecturer
MAUDE, F. (fl. 1880s) – lantern operator
C.E.T.S. Diocese of London Branch – organiser
“The annual meeting (...) At the close, the audience settled down to hear a lecture on 'The Wonders of Nature'. This was written by Mr. F. Maude, who, with a magic lantern, illustrated it with a number of dissolving views. The lecture was read by the Rev. C.W. Kirkly in a clear and able manner, and the pictures as bthey were thrown on the canvas, showed many marvels of the earth, air, fire and water. Many of the pictures were very beautiful, having an appearance of reality about them, and the lecture throughout was intenseley interesting and instructive. This was followed by the reciting, by Mr. Kirkly, of a poem, entitled 'The Ship on Fire', illustrated very effectiveley on the canvas, and of a composition called 'The Soldier's Dream', also illustrated. During the evening, songs were given by Miss Tow, who pleased the audience with her musical skill, and at the close of the meeting twelve persons gave in their names as new members of the Society.”
