“Towcester and District - The annual meeting of this Union took place recently. At the afternoon business meeting, the chair was occupied by the retiring preseident, the Rev. W. Fidler, who, at an early stage of the meeting, vacated the chair in favour of his successor, Mr. Friday, whom he introduced as an earnest, ardent, and tried worker in connection with the school. The Rev. E. Darley, hon. secretary, presented satisfactory reports from the various schools. The schools in the Union comprised 123 teachers, 94 of whom were church members, and 896 scholars; 244 scholars were members of the Band of Hope, 88 of Christian Endeavour societies, and 128 of the I. B. R. A. After the election of officers an invitation was extended by the Rev. A. E. Boyce of the Good Friday Conference of the Union to be held at Silverstone. This was heartily accepted. The concluding business of the meeting was a discussion on the advisability of acquiring a lantern for the schools. This was brought to a happy conclusion, however, by Mr. Smith generously offering to provide one. It was accepted amid applause. Tea was afterwards provided in the Town Hall, and the fifth annual musical festival was subesequently held. There was a choir of 300 voices and conductor anc chorus thouroughly deserved the congratulations bestwoed upon them. The chair was occupied by the president. ”
