BACKWAY, A.W. (1856-1940) – lecturer
Blandford Wesleyan Sunday School – organiser
“Blandford - Wesleyan Sunday School - On Monday last a Christmas tree and a dissolving view entertainment were given in the Wesleyan Sunday School here to the scholars, parents and friends. A free tea for the scholars was provided at 4.30, after which they each received a present from the well-laden chapel, illustrative of 'Heralds of the Gospel on the Dark Continent', the slides being well exhibited by Mr. W. A. Backway, and hired from 56, Old Bailey. Afterwards refreshments were served in the school-room, and a thoroughly enjoyable evening spent, the Rev. T. Bate and Misses Bate being particularly active and anxious that all should participate in the evening's amusement and instruction. The meeting terminated with some usual votes and thanks.”
