Grimsby and District Sunday School Union – organiser
“Grimsby - On Friday evening, Dec 8th, the quarterly tea and meeting of the Grimsby and District of the Sunday School Union took place in Spring Church School-room. About 90 officers and teachers of the affialiated schools partook of the tea at 6 o'clock, after which the committee of the Union sat to transact business. At 7.30 p.m. a conference was held, presided over by the president Mr. T. Porteous. when Messrs. T. R. Watkinsen and W. K. Gresswell, the delegates to the recent Convention held in Birmingham, gave a resume of proceedings. The remarks of each speaker were both interesting and instructive. It was urged by Mr. Watkinson that greater interest be taken in the village schools and in order to do something towards making their teachers feel that the town workers had a sympathy for them in their work, a magic lantern committee was formed to give entertainments in their schools. Other arrangements were made for extending the work of the Union, and a most succesful gathering was brought to a clse by singing a hymns and prayer. ”
