“Reigate - Congregational Sunday School - The New Year's entertainment in connection with this school was given on Wednesday evening, the 8th of Jan., and consisted of a musical perfomance by the Sunday School choir, consisiting of about 40 to 50 boys and girls. The prinicpal part was the rendering of the cantata, entitled 'The Shepard's Garden' by Pattison, the argument of which was that it represented some of the pastoral scenes of the typical shepard's life. (...) Following the musical entertainment, a magic lantern exhibition was given for the benefit of the younger portion of the company, and at the conlusion Mr. B. Griggs addressed a few words, when the proceedings closed a most enjoyable evening.”
