“Senior Scholars' Entertainment, 56 Old Bailey, London - A very interesting lecture entitled 'Scotland; her Sons and Scenery,' was delivered in the Lecture Hall, 56, Old Bailey, School Union. The lecture was illustrated by dissolving views, which comprised some splendid views of Scotch scenery. The lecturer commenced an imaginary tour through Scotland by a brief visit to Edinburgh, introducing the famous Castle, Scott's Monument, and the house of John Knox, the latter naturally leading up to the subject of the Reformation in Scotland. A walk to Holyrood Palace next introduced the story of the illfated Mary Queen of Scots. This was followed by an account of the Convenanters and their sufferings, and short biographical sketches of some of the more modern heroes of Scottish fame, including Moffat, Livingstone, Drs. Chalmers and Guthrie, and W. and R. Chambers. Melrose Abbey, Abbotsford, and Dryburgh Abbey, suggested the names of Sir Walter Scott, and robert burns, the lecturer frequently quoting extracts from the celebrated works of these writers. The followed flying visits to Glasgow, Sterling, the Trossachs, with Lochs Achray, Katrine, and Lomond, Glencoe, Ben Nevis, and many other places of historical interest, the excursion at length ending at Balmore Castle. After the singing of a new National Anthem, a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the lecturer, and the meeting closed with prayer.”
