“Rye Congregational Church - On Monday evening, nearly 200 Sunday School scholars connected with this church, with many of the parents and friends, met in the school-room to receive their New Year's treat. A magic lantern entertainment, 'John Ploughman's Pictures,' was given by Mr. George Davies, of Hastings. The descriptive lecture was delivered by the Rev. A. T. Saville. At the close of the entertainment the children received nuts, oranges, and buns, and returned to their homes highly delighted.”
