CARRUTHERS, Alfred G. (1857-1928) – lecturer
CARRUTHERS, Thomas (c.1848- after 1901) – lantern operator
“Riseley - Mr. Alfred G. Carruthers, of Bedford, delivered his popular lecture on 'John Bunyan and the Pilgrim's Progress,' in the Baptist Chapel of this village, on Monday evening week. The lecture was illustrated by a large number of beautiful dissolving views, and was much appreciated by the large audience, which completely filled the building, seats being placed in the aisles. The Rev. T. Cooke, minister of the Moravian Chapel, presided; and, at the close, on the motion of Mr. Burt, seconded by Mr. Beale, of Bletsoe Park, a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the lecturer and his able co-worker with the lanterns, Mr. Thos. Carruthers.”
