“Caledonian Road - An industrial exhibition was held at the Brewery-road Mission Chapel on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, February 25th, 26th, and 27th. The Sunday Schools at Brewery-road and Blundell-street took part, and jointly sent in 338 articles for exhibition. Many of the models were cleverly made. The maps, drawings, illuminated texts were also marked by great painstaking. The exhibits from the girls covered the whole range of plain and fany neeedlework, wool work, arrangements of flowers and ferns, also scrap books and other miscellaneous articles. There was also a competition in pastry, sweets, &c. and this stall proved so attractive, that during the three evenings, L7 was taken for refreshments sold. In addition to the articles made and sent by the children, many curiosities were lent to add to the interest of the exhibition. By way of an additional attraction a magic lantern was shown each evening in the lower class-room, and in the upper class-room a fine art gallery and galvanic batteries were at work, also Mr. Tinsdale's Phrenological lecture. On Wednesday night, after the judges had made their award as to prizes, some 600 persons (adults and exhibitors) assembled, and spent a very pleasant evening; again on Thursday evening about 450 assembled; and on Friday, when children only met, some 300 were present, and the prizes, thirty-nine in number, were awarded, and presented to the successful candidates by Mrs. Benson, wife of the pastor of the chapel.”
