“Chipperfield, Herts - On Wednesday, Feb. 11, the annual treat was given to the teachers and children of the Baptist Sunday and British Day Schools, in celebration of the briths days of the Misses Ryan, and Lillie Turner Smith. About 130 sat down to a substantial tea, provided at the expense of J. Ryan and W. Turner, Esqs., of Chipperfield. A magic lantern exhibtion followed, and during the evening the children were supplied with nuts, sweets, buns, oranges, &c. At the close the pastor (Rev. S. Couling), in the name of the teachers, presented to each of the young ladies whose birthays were thus kept, an illustrated book, suitably inscribed; these were acknowledged by Messrs. Ryan and Turner in brief but practical remarks.”
