“Newmarket - The young people attending the above school gathered on Thursday evening, Feb. 5th, to receive the prizes gained during the past year. Previous to the distribution a large number of dissolving views were exhibited by T. T. Ball, Esq., of Burwell. Upwards of forty books were then presented by the Rev. Wm. Attwell (the pastor), each one being accompanied by a friendly shake of the hand, and a few words of encouragement or congratulation. An illuminated card for each child in the lower classes, and a supply of buns and oranges for all the scholars, completed the evening's entertainment. Many of the children being accompanied by their friends the large room was quite filled.”
