“Croydon - A lecture was given in the Derby-road School-room on the 12th Nov., by Mr. J. G. C. Armstrong, on 'Canada, and the United States.' A large number of views, illustrating the various places, were shown by means of the magic lantern by Messrs. Sparks and White. There was a good attendance of children and friends, the proceeds being devoted to the formation of a library fund in connection with the Sunday School. A vote of thanks was proposed by the pastor, Rev. J. Thurston, and seconded by the superintendent, Mr. Geo. Taylor.”
