KIRK, C. (fl. 1870s) – lantern operator
Lambeth Ragged School – organiser
“Lambeth - The annual dinner given in connection with the Lambeth Ragged Schools, which took place this year on January 2nd, was provided for in a peculiarly interesting manner. By the thoughtful energy of Mr.R.Collis, of Pembroke House Collediate School, Kennington-green, and the zeal of the young gentlemen under his tuition, about 450 of the very poorest and most destitute children of Lambeth are indebted for the provision of a substatial Christmas dinner of hot beef, baked potatoes, and plum-pudding. After all the dishes had been cleared, a goodly number of Christmas puddings created fresh and delight, and upon the superintendent, quietly stattin that some small coins had been mixed with the other ingredients, continued outburts of joy were elicited. After dinner, Mr. Bonsey, the superintendent, entertained them by the interesting story of a child's adventures, entitled, 'Alone in London,' which Mr.C. Kirk illusrtated to great advantage by means of the magic lantern apparatus. At the doors, oranges were given to each child, and so terminated this capital evening's pleasure for these poor needy ones.”
