“Gravesend. - Princess Street. - On Wednesday evening, 10th inst., the infants' annual winter treat took place. The schoolroom was tastefully decorated, and in the centre of the room was a large Christmas-tree loaded with toys, etc. [...] At a special teachers' meeting, held on Dec. 4, it was resolved to start a children's Band of Hope in connection with the above schools, and a committee was appointed to carry out the idea. The committee invited the scholars to a dissolving views entertainment on Wendsday, the 10th, when, after an enjoyable entertainment, during which Mr. J. A. Stirton officiated as lecturer, Mr. M. A. Bevan explained the object of the meeting and the features of the Band of Hope.”
