“Greenock Free Middle Church Mission S. S. - On the evening of the 14th inst., the annual social reunion of the teachers and children of the Broad Close, Dock Breast, and Cathcart-street Sabbath Evening Schools connected with this mission was held in the Congregational Hall, Kilblain-street, the Rev. John McFarlan presiding. The soirĂ©e having been opened with praise and prayer, the chairman briefly addressed the children. [...] A pleasing variation in the evening's entertainment was then introduced in the form of a magic-lantern, which was successfully manipulated by Mr. McNair, the views being described by Mr. P. Mackellar. The children were at various times regaled with buns, fruit, etc., and the meeting was also enlivened by the singing of several hymns, cheerfully rendered, under the leadership of Mr. Ramsay. After the usual votes of thanks were cordially awarded, the chairman closed the meeting. Oranges and books suitable for the occasion were dispensed to the children upon retiring from the hall, where they had apparently enjoyed a very happy evening. ”
