“Gravesend Ragged Schools - The children attending the day and Sunday Schools assembled to the number of upwards of 200 at the schoolroom, on Tuesday, the 7th inst., for their annual winter treat.After tea they formed into procession, and headed by the Gravesend drum and fife band, marched to the Assembly Rooms, where a dissolving views entertainment by Mr. Henry Warner, illustrating 'Alone in London' and 'The Pied Piper of Hameline' had been prepared. Mr. W. E. Lilley, formerly of Gravesend, acted as lecturer. Several appropriate hymns were sung by the children. The children on separating received each a bun and an orange, and a thouroughly enjoyable evening was brought to a close at about nine o'clock.”
