“Camberwell - Baptist Chapel, Wyndham-road - On Tuesday evening, Nov. 20th, through the kindness of the superintendent, Mr. George Gissing, and the teachers and friends of the school, the children, to the number of 140, with about sixty of their mothers, were entertained in the schoolroom with tea, bread and butter, and cake. The schoolroom was well decorated with flags kindly lent from the Metropolitan Tabernacle, and bunches of cut flowers were placed upon the tables. The meeting was an interesting and happy one. After tea prizes of books were given to each scholar, and an address by Mr. Josephs, the present minister. This was followed by a magic lantern entertainment in the chapel, consisting of Scripture subjects, and 'The Life of Scrub, the Workhouse Boy'. The views were exhibited by Mr. John Vass and explained by Mr. Gissing. The meeting was brought to a close about ten o´clock.”
