“Ayr and District - Under the auspices of the Ayr and District Sabbath School Union, the Rev. John Reid, M. A. Dundee, is who is a native of Ayr gave a lecture in Cathcart Street Church on 'India, and Mission Work in India'. The chair was occupied by the Rev. George Copland, M.A. Mr. Reid recently visited India as one of a deputation from the United Free Church, to report on the missionary enterprise of the denomination; and speaking thus from personal knowledge, the lecturer treated his subject in a deeply interestingly fashion. He spoke of the progress of missionary effort in India on being very satisfactory, and said there were many signs of hope for the future. Those who decried the work of their missionaries did so from want to knowledge. The lecture was illustrated by about sixty lime-light views from photographs taken by Mr. Reid in the course of his tour. At the close of a very hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr. Reid, in the motion of Mr. J. D. Paton, and to the Chairman, on the notion of Mr. Cuthbert, President of the Union.”
