“Capt. Hughes and Cadet Burgess, of the Ely II Van, held a three-weeks Mission in Barton. The meetings took place in the Church, in the Parish room and the Manor School; all, we are glad to note, were well attended, and on many occasions crowded out. The captain's earnest, helpful words were listened to with rapt attention. Splendid lantern views were used by way of illustration at many of the meetings, and helped greatly to bring home the Gospel message; the singing was most enthusiast and helpful. Altogether, so far as one may judge these matters, the mission was successful, utterly void of all cant anf vain-glory, and most heartily fo we thank our good friends for their visit and sincerly trust they may come again on some future occasion.
